~ What We Need ~

~ What We Need ~

“We don’t need more graduates, more executives, more professionals. The streets of society are already full of overly sane people and what we need right now is a little more explosion and colour. Right now what we need are the painters, the poets, the crazy ones. We need the ones who are not afraid to shake the world into life; the ones not afraid to share their soul’s contents with the world; the ones not afraid to spew out their passion and pain onto a blank page or canvass. We need those erupting hearts bleeding themselves dry. Those erupting hearts bringing some colour back into the mix. And in the end it’s those erupting hearts who remind us all of what it is to be human – the ones who voice that fierce inner nature of the soul which tells us no matter how much greyness society pours down, there will always be some wilderness left untouched in the hearts of us all.”

“Art’s task is to save the soul of mankind.” – Terence Mckenna

~ Post-College Rebellion ~

~ Post-College Rebellion ~

So I finally arrived but the businessmen say the journey has just begun;
twenty years of transitional education to be bottom facing the gun.
With a loss of direction I lament the system and nation;
for what use is this knowledge – without imagination?

And I got that post-college rebellion rushing through my veins,
spewing out my mouth and flowing down the drain.
I got that post-college rebellion bleeding from my eyes,
dripping onto newspapers as I read the daily lies.
I got that post-college rebellion weakening my knees,
got me hiking with a backpack in the mountains overseas;
post-college rebellion and I look up to the skies and plea:
is there more to life than this – is there something more for me?

‘cause I know there are forces out there that want to put me in a box,
to kneel down faithfully and kiss the finger of the man;
to place me into a cubicle where nobody ever knocks,
and dress up nicely – a component of society with a plan.

Yeah maybe one day I’ll be more conservative,
and chase the money and the power, and build a castle to live.
But now I gotta do the things that fan the flames of my desire,
the ones that kill this twitch inside and set my soul on fire.

That’s why I got post-college rebellion burning up my skin,
igniting my anxiety and turning my flesh thin.
I got that post-college rebellion choking me like dust,
got me spitting out the mediocrity of this decaying social rust.
I got that post-college rebellion wandering into the wild;
got me sleeping on the floor and playing like a child;
post-college rebellion and I look up to the stars and plea:

is there more to life than this – is there something more for me?

~ A Rebellion Against Life ~

~ A Rebellion Against Life ~

“In this life they call you a rebel if you live life your own way and not society’s. But to me there is no greater rebellion than riding the cultural conveyor-belt safely to the grave without ever questioning why. Often the people who do this are the people who ridicule others for breaking free and going out to explore their inner and outer worlds. I apologise to absolutely none of them for walking my own path. I am not a rebel; I am simply just another person following their heart and bliss through the wilderness. Now, to ignore your heart your whole life and play it safe to the end? To hide always among the crowd? To stick your fingers in your ears and never try to explore anything else other what you’ve been taught and told? Now that is what I call a rebellion. That is a rebellion against the very essence and beauty of life itself.”

~ Reckless Rebellion ~

“You’re reckless rebellion
I see it in your eyes
I slip through your retina
and I watch the flames rise
because you don’t move like they do
you don’t dance the same grooves
you look up when they look down
you sing soul when they sing blues
not everyone may notice
but its visible to me
the wistful look in your eye
is burning anarchy.”
