~ Life Through The Veins ~

Too often you go through life on autopilot
Not even realising that you aren’t awake
And alert to the beauty around you.

Then one day something shakes you
It isn’t some great epiphany of light
Rather it’s usually something simple
Be it the sight of a bird resting on a branch
A crescent moon resting over a city skyline
Rain droplets running down the window glass
Or a small child running with a natural joy
That you had long forgotten about.

Maybe it’s a certain song
Or a combination of sound and sight
Birds tweeting as the sun rises over the hills
Setting off a morning chorus in your own soul.

At every moment of life, we are ready to awaken again
And see that we are wandering in some work of art
And every moment is full of mystery and magic
And that things aren’t so bad after all.

As the earth twirls in space
As the oxygen fills your lungs
As the stars shimmer in the night sky
And your heart beats in harmony 
With the whole of the universe.

Know that you are alive.

Something in my spirit sings
Though the days get dark
And the path gets twisted
Something inside of me
Sings ever so softly.

On those manic days
When the world seems to stand against you
And faces of hatred glare at you
And the demons encircle you
There is this something
That I have always felt
Harmonising within.

It’s kinda like a defiant laugh
A secret strength from somewhere
Sourced from some unspeakable knowledge
That is the result of all my years
Of overcoming struggles
Which did not break me.

Something in my spirit sings
As thunder rumbles around me.

Something in my spirit sings
As the lightning strikes the roof.

Something in my spirit sings
As the rain comes flooding in.

Defeat, destruction, 
Asteroids crashing down
Tsunamis pounding my shores
None shall stop my song.

Even in death,
Hear my melody play on.
The sound of a universal spirit
That can never
Be silenced.

~ My Ambition ~

I don’t want to be revered
Or admired
Or respected
Or even accepted.

Any man who finds his happiness
In the opinions of others
Is no man to me.

I simply want to be happy with the person
That I see in the mirror.

I want to wake up every day
And live a life that is in tune
With the gentle voice
That I hear in my heart.

I want to write poetry
And walk in the woods
And for my words and actions
To be that of the higher energy
Which flows through everything.

I want to feel my mind as clear
As the air and the water
While feeling no distance
Between me and the stars.

I want to know what this life is
To be fully alive and awake
My eyes seeing what’s before me
Without any mental distortion.

There is no time to take notice
Of the noise of society
When nature is here
To tell me the truth.

That nature is my god
And my ambition
Is to live in alignment with it.

To be as pure as a sunset
As free-flowing as a river
As true as a lightning bolt
And just be ‘myself’

Whatever the hell

That really is.

Like others before me, there came a time in my life where I knew I needed to find something. Whatever that something was, it seemed to be not available in my immediate surroundings. Unsatisfied with my external world, I realised my journey was to become an internal one. One day my quest began. Digging into the depths of myself, I struck that spade into the solid ground. With force and might I pulled away the dirt with a driven and determined energy. I knew in my bones that something in those depths, buried away in the darkness, waiting to be uncovered. I didn’t know what it was exactly, but I could feel its presence within, and soon everything else in my life centered around finding it. Naturally I knew there were those out there who would dismiss such an undertaking as foolish or crazy, but I knew that that something within me was something that would make me richer in most ways that people had experienced. So I kept digging away, breaking apart that earth, with blistered hands searching deeper and deeper within my own soul. And in that act of soul-searching, I felt assured that one day the time would come where I would stand with that great diamond in my hands; a man who broke through his walls, who stripped away his surface, who unearthed his treasure and let it finally glint in the morning light. A man no longer blind to what he possesses.

“I guess I didn’t want too much from life. I didn’t care for all the usual things: money, cars, houses, fancy clothes, careers, status. The only thing that mattered was living my life in a way that made me proud of what I saw when I stared into the mirror. And that pride was only going to come one way: by living a life in line with my values and convictions. By walking a path that was not predetermined, but one that was paved by my own desire and intuition. Such an intense pull to this way of being led me to abandon a conventional lifestyle quickly in adulthood. Maybe that life could bring happiness to some people, but not for me. My heart craved for something faraway, and thus began a journey into the wild – an epic voyage that saw me travelling the earth, climbing mountains, and exploring my inner and outer worlds. I flew one-way to random countries. I almost died on the side of a mountain. I ran outta money and slept on park benches. It was a chaotic journey and there were times I was so confused and alone. There were times when I felt that I had lost my mind completely. But no matter what I felt, that force inside propelled me to keep on following my heart to whatever end. It’s been a crazy journey, and although some people probably consider me still young and foolish, I believe living this way over the last decade has given me something many take their whole lives to find, and many never find at all. That is a thorough understanding of who I am and what my place is in the universe. It is a thorough understanding of what it means to be human, and how true happiness can be felt in the soul. For anyone in the position I was about ten years ago, I can only say this: your intuition is more powerful than you know. You are the maker of your own destiny. Forget what everyone else is doing; if you can feel your heart craving for something not in your surroundings, then go out and get it. Not only will you most likely find it, but you will also have one hell of an adventure along the way.”

“Yes, I know you are hurting. This world has broken you. It breaks many of us at some point, but you are not going to give in because I can still see the flames that will start a great fire still flickering within those eyes. You are going to overcome this, but know that it’s not going to be easy. The warrior inside you doesn’t even want it to be. It’s going to be a great battle in which you shall dive down and rescue yourself from the depths of hell. Soon that darkness will pass, the dungeons will be unlocked, the dragons and demons will leave your skies. A new dawn shall arrive as the flags of joy in your heart flutter once more in that morning wind. This is it: the greatest battle you will ever face, and you will face it as who you really are: a child of infinity; a warrior of the sun. And it is a battle you are going to win. But first remember to be gentle to yourself. You are not responsible for saving the world, but first yourself, and please know that you are worth saving. Those eyes were meant to blaze with brightness, not wither with gloom; those feet were meant to dance in ecstasy, not trudge in the swamp.

 In all your despair, you have forgotten that you are the entire universe dancing in a singular being for a singular lifetime. Stars have died; light has travelled billions of years; cosmic magic has been weaved. Your very flesh contains the fundamental fabric of the entire universe and no matter what anyone says: you matter and you count. So go on: do whatever it takes. Go crazy if you have to. Reinvent yourself. Set fire to your soul and let the battle begin; let your spirit be unleashed. Because there is no way a divine being such as yourself was meant to dwell in darkness and despair. Those days are over and now is the time to emerge from that swamp; now is the time to claim back what is yours. With the power of a million suns burning deep inside your heart, now is the time to rise up and become who you were born to be.”

“It’s that space inside yourself you can’t quite seem to fill. No matter what clothes you buy, what lovers you kiss or beers you drink, there is that space – that void – which cannot be filled by your surrounding society. Money won’t fill it. Sex won’t fill it. That self-help book won’t fill it. It is a space which only gets filled from within, and the longer your eyes look for external coordinates and things, the more that internal abyss will continue to grow. Eventually you become bitter and twisted, a foreigner out on the streets of life, wandering further and further from the essence of yourself. If you feel this happening then take a step back and reassess the situation. Disregard everything that makes you feel incomplete. Follow your inner compass. Trust in your own voice. Every person who awakened and found their personal treasure did it by looking inside and not outside of themselves. It’s all in there waiting for you: your happiness, your contentment, your peace and everything you’ve ever needed. Stop looking in the wrong places and chasing what cannot be caught. Turn your gaze inward and walk into the inner domain of your own soul. It’s time to go home to the place where the greatest gold is found.”

There is a flag which flies in my heart. 
It flutters in winds of hate and dances in storms of pain. 
It stays raised proudly at full mast in the darkest of all nights. 

There is a flag which flies in my heart.

It will never be replaced by another. 
No tyrant will ever take it down; 
nor storm wear it away,
forever it will flutter free in that breeze, 
overlooking untamed lands.

There is a flag which flies in my heart.

It is the flag of joy
the flag of hope
the flag of adventure 

it is the flag of a kingdom 
which will never be conquered 
in this life, 

or the next.

“There is only so much pain a man can endure before he is either destroyed totally or rises up against his demons without fear. As those monsters did their work on me, I stopped searching the skies for help and turned my gaze inward. It was only then that I found the temple of peace and warmth I had yearned for. The candles of contentment have been lit and their flames flicker to illuminate the darkness that once consumed me totally. I used the flames of hell to my own gain and started a fire that keep the demons cowering in their darkness. An eternal life blazes within me as I stand here burning up on this rock, incarnate in a human body, proud to exist and breathe the air, proud to look outward at the storm of existence knowing that there is an inner flame of joy that will never be extinguished.”

“Don’t ever let them make you feel small; don’t ever let them make you feel like you are absolutely nothing. Within you is the same energy force that burns the stars, that grows the flowers, that forms the mightiest mountains. That same energy that flows through your body has been flowing since the beginning of the universe. Stars have died; light has travelled billions of years; cosmic magic has been weaved all so your manifestation could take its shape and form. Your very existence is a product of the entire universe and you did not come here to dwell in the dark dungeons of dread and despair. Yes, it’s easy to feel marginalised in this society, it’s easy to feel small, but if you take the time to sit down in silence in nature – to breathe in and pause – slowly you will discover that you have the eternal energy of the cosmos flowing through your veins. Slowly you will discover that you are harmonious with the whole. Slowly you will discover that you are a child of infinity and a warrior of the sun.”
