~ Just Wondering ~

~ Just Wondering ~

I guess you don’t think much about me anymore

But I still think of you
And the little things you are doing,
In every moment, in every day
Like opening doors, combing your hair
Looking sideways out the car window
As you pull out from your drive.

I think of the world you are living in
A world that I am not a part of
Except only in occasional memories
That I do not know are bad
Or bittersweet.

Sometimes I think of mailing back
The purple flannel you gave me
With a blank postcode from wherever I am
Nothing would need to be said
Just that thing arriving at the door
Would be enough to let you know
Whatever it is I’m trying to say.

But I know better than to disturb the past
Or howl out from beyond your horizon

You live in the suburbs of some other place
And I am out here wandering
And wondering…

What is sad is not what happened
But what didn’t happen instead.
